Physical therapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/ intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional and social well being.

The Department of Physiotherapy in Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, Punjabi Bagh has a present strength of seven physiotherapists and three supporting staff. All of them are totally geared towards patient care and rehabilitation. Well planned and properly executed physical rehabilitation programme is one of the most important components of the overall treatment system adopted by us for the patients.

The Timings of the Department is from 8 am to 8 p.m. and is well equipped with latest equipments working on various sub specialties of physiotherapy.

We have qualified, experienced and well trained team of physios providing OPD Services with IPD Services (in Wards and Intensive Care Units) with treatment procedure to offer a multifaceted approach to the patient’s rehabilitation.

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
The Department specializes in protocol-based rehabilitation for the arthroplasty patients, spinal injury, ligament injury and post fracture care.
Hand injuries and rehabilitation are indispensable associations and the department is adequately equipped to deal with this very important aspect of orthopaedic rehabilitation.

Cardiac Rehabilitation & Chest Physiotherapy
There are also ancillary services offered by Physical Medicine Department in association with the respective departments.
This is important as Maharaja Agrasen Hospital has one of the best cardiac surgery departments, makes chest physiotherapy essential for many patients for early recovery.

Pain Management
This is very important, but long neglected aspect of rehabilitation as a specialty of the department. Working in tandem with other clinical departments, the department has effective and well proven methods in making a proper diagnosis in case of back pain, heel pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, keen pain etc and managing pain using exercises, drugs, various physical modalities, patient education, orthotic interventions, lifestyle changes and ergonomics, all in combination as needed.

Cumulative Trauma
Cumulative trauma Disorders also called occupational versus syndromes, they are injuries of musculoskeletal and nervous system that may be caused by repetitive tasks, forceful exertions, vibrations, mechanical compression or sustained or awkward positions. Early diagnosis is essential for effective management with a combination of drugs, exercises, ergonomics and physical agents.

Pain relieving measures, splints and patient education regarding joing protection are the highlights.

Orthotic interventions
Orthosis or splints are devices which improve function, restricts or facilitate movements in joints, protects injured part, prevent contracture or provide support to a part of body. These have to be judiciously prescribed and checked out after application to the body part and used as prescribed. Orthosis may be of help in many conditionslike Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral palsy, arthritis, deformities of skeletal system etc.

Gynecology and Obstetrics
Gynecology and Obstetrics Patients have the benefit of receiving advice regarding antenatal and postnatal exercises backed by information leaflet.

It is now being recognized that peripheral vertigo is best managed using techniques of manipulation and exercises. This very distressing symptom is being managed along with the ENT department and has one of the largest series of patients treated by such methods. Long term dependence on drugs by these unfortunate sufferers is largely reduced by these methods.

The department is equipped with state-of-the art and latest therapeutic modalities; it has patient centric layout and dedicated area to provide best possible care with great safety and efficiency.
